Current Events

Dr. Wong was elected as the Founding Chair of the Pan Asia Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery at the inaugural meeting of the PAAFPRS during the 3rd International Conference of Facial Plastic Surgery in China in September of 2009. Dr. Wong hopes to help the Pacific countries in facilitating facial plastic educational exchange. The Academy will endeavour to bring the highest standard of facial plastic reconstructive surgery to Pacific Asia.

Dr. Wong is the Founding Chair of The Pan Asia Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery

This September, Dr. Wong led an international team of renowned facial plastic surgeons to the successful completion of the 9th Smile China Mission at Nanning, China. During this mission, over 100 procedures of cleft lip and palate repair was performed for the underprivileged children born with these deformities who came from remote parts of Guangxi province. The team consisted of surgeons from Canada, USA, Brazil, Japan , Australia and China. Dr. Wong is the Chair and Founder of the Smile China project, a Canadian registered Charity.

Dr. Wong was honoured to be a special guest of the renowned Shanghai-Hangzhou rhinoplasty meeting in April 2009. At that time he also performed demonstrational nose surgery. No. 9 Hospital is one of the best plastic surgery hospitals in China.

Invitation Letter

Wong was invited to be a guest speaker at the 5th Biennial International Milano Masterclass "The Quest of Excellence" in Rhinoplasty in Milan, Italy Mar 27-31. This is the most revered rhinoplasty course in Europe. Dr. Wong lectured on "rhinoplasty in Asians."

In Spring 2010, the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery will publish a special issue on Asian facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Wong will be the guest editor of this issue.

Dr. Wong was invited to be the sole guest of honour at the inaugural national meeting of the Brazilian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery at Sao Paulo, Brazil in Nov 14-15,2008. During this meeting, Dr. Wong gave five keynote lectures and performed demonstrative surgery in rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and endoscopic midface lift to a large audience of Brazilian facial plastic surgeons from all over Brazil. The meeting was highly rated and Dr. Wong was featured as the main attraction to the large attendance of the meeting.

Dr. Wong took a Smile China team of 9 members including North American and Chinese renowned facial plastic surgeons to Chengdu, Sichuan from Oct 27 to Nov 9, 2008. Smile China was invited to participate in the Three-One Project organized by the local society for the disabled, women’s union , ministry of health and medical community. The project was to help injured victims, particularly children and women, who sustained serious facial injuries during the May 12 Sichuan earthquake. During this time, 50 patients were helped and 20 major facial reconstructive operations were performed for free for these victims.
